How great a grace

Sunday, March 14, 2004 • Rev. Jose Gomez Sr. • Personal Growth
You will learn how great is Gods grace towards us. And how it empower's us for every area of our lives.

  • John Newton, the author of Amazing Grace said;

    When I get to heaven, I shall see three wonders there: The first wonder will be to see many there whom I did not expect to see; the second wonder will be to miss many people whom I did expect to see; the third and greatest of all will be to find myself there"

    The dictionary defines grace as the unmerited favor of God toward men

    #1. Grace is the favor God is able to show to men because Christ died for them; "by grace are ye saved," Eph. 2:8.

    *Grace is a free gift from God.
    It doesnt cost anything (You don't give God time or your tithe expecting more grace. You give it because you are obedient and its the right thing to do.

    *Grace is distinguished from the law, John 1:17;

    *It's distinguished from works, Rom. 11:6;
    Someone said that; "The believer who seeks to live the Christian life through self-effort is like the man who, in attempting to sail across the Atlantic Ocean, found his boat becalmed for days. Finally, frustrated by his lack of progress, he tried to make his stalled boat move by pushing against the mast. Through strenuous efforts, he succeeded in making the boat rock and so created a few small waves on the otherwise smooth sea. Seeing the waves and feeling the rocking of the boat, he assumed that he was making progress and so continued his efforts. Of course, although he exerted himself a great deal, he actually got nowhere."(and so with us , our strengh lies on the grace of God, Not on self effort)

     *from debt, Rom. 4:4.

    *Men are chosen by grace, Rom. 11:5;

    *justified by grace, Rom. 3:24;

    *continue in grace, Acts 13:43;

    *They grow in grace as they grow in the knowledge of Christ, 1 Pet. 2:2; 2 Pet. 3:18.
    Men fall short when they put the law in the place of grace, Gal. 5:4.

    #2. Grace empowers you to servge God.
    Paul said; "But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain, but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was in me."

    *How many remember who they were without Christ?
    *It's the grace of God that has made us who we are today
    *If you have anything. It's only because of the grace of God.
    *You are a better person now because of God's grace.

    Gods grace made paul work harder. We are not saved by our works but working for the kingdom is a result of the grace of God.

    *When we realize what God has done for us, we want to work for Him.

    #3. Grace enables us to live simple and sincere lives (2 Cor. 1:12).

    Paul said; "I have a clear conscience just knowing that I conducted myself in the world in simplicity and Godly sincerity by the grace of God"(paraphrased)

    *You can have money and still live a simple and sincere life
    *You can have a nice car or a nice house and live a simple and sincere life.
    * You can have a nice carrer or business and be simple and sincere by the grace of God.

    #4. Grace is promised to the humble (1 Peter 5:5-8)
    *It is said that we are living under the dispensation of grace but God has always given grace and favor to humble people.
    The psalmist said in Psalm 84:11 that; "No good thing will God withhold from those who walk uprightly."
    *He gave favor to Abel who brought a more exellent sacrifice than his brother.
    *Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord."
    *Joseph had God's favor even while in prison.
    *God's grace put Moses(a murderer) in front of pharoah.
    *God's grace restored all that Job had lost and gave him more than he had before.
    *God gave favor to Daniel.

    Conclusion: Grace and favor is our inheritence as children of God (Psalm 89:14-18)
