Sermon & Study Notes

If God is for me, who can be agains't me!!

Sunday, May 2, 2004 • Rev. Jose Gomez Sr. • Deliverance
we are engaged in a spiritual battle. God has given us the victory!

2 Kings 6:8-18

-We are often, like the king of (Syria) and Elisha's servant; we fail to see the real power behind what is happening.

-The Bible shows us that the supernatural is a reality for the present. It's not only something of the past or something to be realized in our future-it's a reality for today.

The time; World War I, August 1914.

The British army was sent to assist the Belgian allies as they were being overpowered (three men to one) by the German army. The Germans after pushing all resistance to the side had advanced into the heart of Belgium and France.

Defeat seemed to be certain for Belgium and Great Britain after two days of intense fighting and retreat. Suddenly around a place by a channel of water called Mons the Germans started retreating giving the British enough time to withdraw without any harm. Both the British and the Germans troops were convinced that there had been supernatural intervention as for many years even today some of the witnesses share their testimony of what happened that day.

Captain Cecil Wightwick Hayward (one of the principle witnesses) of the British Army reported;

"Serious defeat appeared certain, especially as we had no reserves ready. It was realized that a "Day of Trouble" had arrived, and that Yahweh alone could help us.  Churches were crowded with the whole of the British Nation at prayer.

While the British soldiers were retiring through Mons under very heavy German machine-gun fire and explosives in August 1914 they knelt beside an erected barricade and prayed to stop the enemy advance. The firing on both sides was very intense, and the air was filled with crashes of exploding shells.

Suddenly, firing on both sides stopped dead and a silence fell. Looking over the barrier, the astonished British saw several beings much bigger than men, between themselves and the halted Germans. They were white robed and bareheaded, and seemed rather to float than stand. Their backs were towards the British, and they faced the enemy with outstretched arm and hand as if to say: "Stop. Don't go any further."  The sun was shining quite brightly at the time. Next thing the British knew was that the Germans were retreating in great disorder. This allowed the British and the Allied Armies to reform and fall back upon a line of defense several miles further west, where they "dug in."  Then began the period of "trench warfare" which continued for over three years, with varying fortunes to either side until the spring of 1918.

*Ephesians 6:12 says; "Our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, and against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

Notice that our armor is spiritual:

1.      The belt of truth (Gods truth)

2.      The breastplate of righteousness is (God's righteousness)

3.      The boots of the Gospel is (God's good news)

4.      he shield of faith is (Faith in no other but God)

5.      The helmet of salvation is (Salvation by no other but Jesus Christ)

6.      The sword of the Spirit is (no other word but God's word)

What we think we know blinds us to what we could know.

-         Our view of the world is projected by what we think we know.

-          Growing up in a natural world has indoctrinated us to a natural perspective of life.

-          It makes it difficult for us to live in the reality of God's supernatural presence. Our natural world tends to blind us to the reality God's presence.

The Bible reveals the supernatural aspect of our lives.

-We see angels moving in and out of the natural order of things in the bible. This is living testimony that our walk with God is a supernatural walk.

-We see angels rejoicing over the salvation of sinners (Luke 15).

We see the apostles becoming a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. (1 Corinthians 4:9).

We need an outside power source if we are going to serve God effectively where He has placed us.

We can't operate in the spiritual with our physical tools. Our senses sometimes deceive us.

Hebrews 11:1 says, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen".

-faith is the ability to see the unseen (2 Corinthians 5:7).

-Faith is the ability to tap into the supernatural presence of God to remove the mountain of difficulties before us.

A Christian's Walk Is a Supernatural and sometimes even religion and the way that one is indoctrinated blind us to what is really happening.

Everybody now days are looking for signs and wonders or a charismatic experience. But they are going about it the wrong way.

·         ( 'IF GOD IS FOR US WHO CAN BE AGAINST US")

·        God has always in the past protected his people and he will continue doing so.

God is our Devine protector;

Psalm 18:2 says; "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold".

1. Rock-literally, "a cleft rock," for concealment.

2. Fortress- A barricade that keeps me safe.

3. He is my deliverer- 2 Tim. 4:18 says; "The Lord will deliver me from every evil      work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom"

The evil eye will not work on me, Witchcraft will not work on me, plotting against me will not work on me, talking negative about me will not work on me (He is my deliverer)

4. My God and my strength-a firm, immovable rock.

5. Shield- He's got me covered

6. horn of my salvation-the horn, as the means of attack or defense of some of the strongest animals, is a frequent emblem of power or strength efficiently exercised (compare De 33:17; Lu 1:69).

     7. Tower-literally, "high place," beyond reach of danger.

He promises ultimate triumph. Psalm 44:5, Luke 10:19, Rom. 8:35-37, 1 john 5:4, rev.15:2.
